URBAN RESIDENCE
Providence, RI
Working with the Providence Historic Commission, Walsh Architect forged a plan to update this historic residence. The structure had seen a myriad of alterations over a two hundred year period leaving it in its existing state. The client wanted to update the living space for the needs of a large family. However, they did not wish to compromise the historic characteristics of the structure. A functional eat-in kitchen and large open living space created a new feel in exposing the original 1790’s beams. The introduction to two new bathrooms eased living situation of the interior. Exterior work included the removal of a porch, replacement of a rear wall, an addition with a bay window, relocation of original windows, and the creation of a new small porch and entry. The subtle renovations of this house, led to a clear improvement within the family environment. These changes also maintained their necessity in the preservation of one of the many beautiful, historic houses in Providence.
